Baking Traditions ๐Ÿ

Christmas in the Midwest is vastly different from what I grew up with in the islands. ☃ Now that I have my own family, I want to continue old traditions and create new ones. That said, our Christmas tradition is baking island treats for our community.
Our goodies are inspired by traditional Samoan desserts like my favorite: pai fala (pineapple half moon pies). We also add a twist to the familiar chocolate chip cookie by adding mago (mango).

This is my way of introducing exotic flavors like pasio (passion fruit), ku'ava (guava) and moegalล (lemongrass) to my American-born children and learn Samoan at the same time.

I share these recipes so you too can teach, learn and enjoy Samoan treats in your own home.
You can start with this recipe - it is one of my kids' favorite to eat and make - and I will post with more to follow.
